I have always wanted to visit Vietnam so I decided if I sponsored a child there I would have a good excuse. I fished around on the internet and came up with this group.
Humanitarian Services for Children of Vietnam
Direct Sponsorship: There are a number of ways to sponsor these deserving children.
• Send a child to school for $50 USD a year
• Purchase a bicycle for a child for $50 USD
• Provide a year’s supply of rice for a family for $100 USD
• Build a new home for $1700 USD
• Provide open-heart surgery for $2700 USD
I took on one child and was so impressed I ended up taking on another.
Que is from the Soc Son district in Vietnam, Que is 10 years old, in 4th grade, and lives with her 42 year old mother. Family’s situation: The family has two bicycles. The family is very poor. They can have just 120,000VND/month (appros $10AU) from the crops and they don’t have any assistance. The child has danger of dropping out of school.
Sponsorship needed: Your help of rice distribution and scholarship will be a treasure to the family and the child.
Special note: Quế is a good student. Her mother needs medicine for her back because she has spine degeneration
Note from the organizers:- Your sponsorship will help Que and her mother tremendously. Without your sponsorship Que would not be able to go to school. She would have no choice but to help her mother support them.
Ngoc is my new addition with this organisation and already I have received 2 letters from her. Ngoc lives with her mother and little sister. She tells me they are very poor and she dreams of having a bike, so I have gone ahead and purchased one for her.
I still sponsor both of these girls and get the most fantastic letters from them especially the elder Que.
Poor Ngoc has just returned from hospital after having a minor operation.
I have purchased bikes for both of these girls and this year they introduced TET packages so I purchased one of them for each girl.
I plan on visiting both girls in Feb 2009
